The water was its usual calm. There was just a light breeze, the smell of fresh grass in the air. Rayne pointed her nose towards the sky, she embraced the fresh scent. She jumped down from the rock where she was laying. Making her way down to the water she kept her eyes open for any predators that could be near, or any snacks for that matter. The water was very refreshing, she sat near the water, taking in her surroundings, thinking to herself, where shall I go to hunt?... |

The Blackwood forest was not a place he knew well. In fact, he had only been there on one other occasion when he was very young, after a group of hunter had pursued them after a foolish hunting excursion on thier sheep. They had been chased clean out of Horseshoe Valley and into the next, where they'd spent the night before heading back home to the Crown Forest. That had been when Fenris was a mere child of one, almost three years ago.
In truth. the memories had been vague when he'd recalled them. Blurry thoughts of a lush, green place with a snaking silver river running through it. When he'd finally returned, it wasn't out of curiosity. Fenris had long been wanting to leave the island, ever since his father had been shot and the pack disbanded. Not willing to stay int he territory of his birth, he'd fled to the farthest reaches of the island; The Blackwood Valley. He didn't plan on staying long though. No, quite the opposite, Fen planned to be on his merry little way as soon as possible, as soon as he had a pack.
No, it wasn't an ideal situation- he'd never wanted the kind of life his father had, one of leadership and closeness. He wasn't fit for it, not after everything he'd done, all the blood he'd shed. How could he ever allow himself to have that kind of comfort when he'd ripped it away from so many others? And for what? His pitiful father? No, it was not status he'd wanted, and yet, it would be his all the same, because there was no leaving the island without one.
Muscle shifted smoothly beneath his silvery pelt, hard and smooth as stone. Various scars littered his form from past battle, wars that hadn't been his to begin with. They did little but add to his features though, which were generally attractive. He was a large male, standing at 34 inches high and weighing nearly 100 pounds. He was fit, muscle attractively clinging to every part of him, and his sharp features held a world weary look. In his amber eyes though, which smoulder with a just barelt repressed resentment, one could see the bitterness, the ice. This was a male whose guard never came down, whose emotions were never expressed freely. This was a male who'd been hurt, and who no longer trusted.
He moved as silently as the shadows that crept during nightfall, weaving between the trees and stepping through the dense underbrush. The forest he found himself in was rich with life, and he could smell it all around. He could also smell another wolf. In fact, it was this particular trail that the mail was following. The trail was alarmingly fresh, and he followed it down to river, where a series of large boulders were scattered along the bank. There, near the waters edge, he spotted her.
Her coat was a most unusual ginger, and he might have thought her a hybrid of some sort if it weren't for the purely wild look about her. The sharp gaze she set on her surroundings, the broad set shoulders and strong legs. 'She's built strong. he regarded, pushing past her beauty to find the characteristics that were more beneficial. Indeed, she would make a great addition to his little pack, if he could convince her. With a soft woof he announced his presence. His body language was careful. Ears sat forward, and amber eyes were settled on her form as he stepped forward, tail relaxed. His form spoke of dominance, but not of overbearing dominance. There was no sign of the arrogance a more coc.ky male might have displayed, nor any intention that he was there to start a fight. Just simple curiosity.

A low woof interrupts her trail of thought, collecting herself, she turns to the direction where the noise had come from. She sees a wolf not too far up the path she had just taken not long ago herself. "Hello." He called to her. She could tell he was no threat by the tone of his voice. But she still did not know this wolf that was following her, and was not sure if she should let her guard down as he was much bigger than she was. Hopefully not to regret her next move, she presses on to find out who he was, "Have you been following me?" she questioned, sort of dreading the answer because she should have known someone was following her, she was mad at the idea that someone could have even gotten away with such a thing. |

The first words out of the females mouth were not the ones he'd been expecting to hear. A hello maybe, a 'what are you doing here', but not that. "Well, yeah.." he began, ears flicking back in a momentary display of embarrassment. Of course he had been following her- how else could he find her? But when she said it like that it made him sound like he was some type of creeper or something. "But only for a bit though." he concluded, straightening himself out as if the words were defense enough.
"Are you on your own, or is there a pack around here I should know about?" he asked, voice evening out and filling with the confidence he exuded. It wasn't like Fenris to faulter or stumble over words, but he was just so damn nervous! He hadn't gone out of his way to socialize with others-especially strangers- his entire life. To start to suddenly now, and with the intent of getting others to follow him, it was a lot more pressure than he had first thought it would be.

"Well, yeah.. But only for a bit though. Are you on your own, or is there a pack around here I should know about?" he questioned. She was distracted at the thought that he really had been following her and she had just not noticed. Sometimes nature is a little too distracting... she thought to herself. "I'm alone, I have been for quite awhile now. What is your business with me? Why have you taken time out of your life to follow me?" she questioned him back. Rayne could never really grasp the thought of someone taking to her, someone seeking her, someone... Needing her, and all of a sudden someone is, it really threw her off. She took a few steps towards him, and leaped up onto a rock that was nearby, not taking her eyes off this stranger for one second. She did'nt feel threatened, but she still was'nt going to give him any advantages.

[blcokquote] "I'm alone, I have been for quite awhile now. What is your business with me? Why have you taken time out of your life to follow me?"
And there it was, the million dollar question. He'd known it was coming- you couldn't just hail down a stranger and then expect them not to ask why. Still, he found he was unsettling unready for this moment, and he had to take a moment to find the right words.
"I've come, to offer you an opportunity... he began, trailing off a moment as he himself tried to figure out what it was he had to offer. "The humans move in on our territory more each year- there's no living with them. I don't know about you, but I don't want to die. So, I'm trying to get a pack together that's strong enough to survive on the mainland. I've already figured out how to get across, all I need now are dogs and wolves strong enough to hold thier own and help make things work once we're across."
He found the words came far easier than he'd expected once he'd began, and though the male had never been much of a speaker, he knew that the truth of his words held impact. Hopefully they would strike hard.
"You look like you'd make a useful addition." he finished, careful not to make the words sound possesive- his intentions weren't to claim a bunch of females to keep as a harem, but rather, to find a group who were just as determined as he to escape this hellhole, because only others as desperate as he would be crazy enough to do what he was going to try.

The wolf had proclaimed, giving Rayne a whole lot to think about. All that kept blurring her mind was How could somebody want me.. She knew she was more than capable of surviving in any conditions, she was just unsure of the Mainlands, it was somewhere she never ventured, though she was always curious about the area. Rayne knew that being with a pack would be easier, and she was sure she would be a very useful addition. Just, the idea of actually going somewhere she never ventured, sort-of scared her. "I guess I could join you on this mission, but do know that I have my eye's on you.." She said with a glare, Rayne was still very uncertain of this wolf's intentions. Though he clearly had stated what he was doing in the woods, and what he wanted, she could never completely fathom that anyone would seek her out, and ask for her help. Even ask her to be apart of a pack. Rayne had been alone nearly her entire life, she never thought she would be apart of anything, she liked being alone. She was ready for a change, this was a big one, but she was ready, "I'm Rayne."

For a long moment, Fenris was left in suspense . The nameless female was clearly mulling over his offer, which was more than he could have hoped for. His father, despite being a cruel tyrant, had always managed to inspire passion and energy into those who followed him. The silvery grey wolf wasn't sure if he had perhaps inherited some of his fathers talent with words, but none the less the she-wolfs answer came, and he let loose a breath he hadn't known he was holding.
"I guess I could join you on this mission, but do know that I have my eye's on you..
Pleased but at a loss, the male settled for a simple nod of his head to show he had acknowledged her answer. "I'm Rayne." she stated, breaking the awkward silence that had been about to envelope them. "I'm Fenris." was his own prompt reply. He spoke again after, but his lyrics seemed to hold a hint of hesitation, as if he weren't quite sure how to go about saying what he wanted to. "Um..Thanks- for joining. I wasn't sure if others would want to go. Even though mans grip on this island tightens each year, there are still a lot who won't leave..."

"Im Fenris. Um..Thanks- for joining. I wasn't sure if others would want to go. Even though mans grip on this island tightens each year, there are still a lot who won't leave..." Rayne had never had trouble with humans, she had never even seen a human. She was always sort of locked up in her own world, impervious to her surroundings I guess that makes me an easy target to follow... Fenris had said he wanted to get a pack together, "So where do you think we are going to find more wolves for this.. pack" she questioned him. Though almost always distracted, Rayne had never really seen any other lone wolves around these parts. Until Fenris came along that is. Jumping down off the rock she stood before Fenris, he was a very handsome wolf, this made her step back a little and lower her ears. She looked to him and waited for direction, she was ready to start this adventure with her new, majestic friend.

"So where do you think we are going to find more wolves for this.. pack"
It was a good question, a damn good one, but like everything else, it had been considered at length. Most of the wolves on Riven had belonged to his fathers pack int he Crown forest. However, as he had insisted upon making war with the humans, most of them had been shot dead- Fenris himself had only just gotten out alive, and not unscathed. "Well the wolves probably wont number much, but what we do find will probably be found here. We can get other help though..." he paused at this, not sure how the female would react tot he second part of his plan. "I've come to learn that the village the humans live in is overrun with stray dogs who are virtually wild. If we could convince some of them to join with us we would probably have a better chance once we hit the mainland- we can easily find twice as many dogs as we can wolves." he explained, making sure to keep his voice even. This wasn't something he was willing to negotiate about- dogs wouldend up joining them, it was the only way to make sure thier numbers were enough.

Rayne thought for a moment, she had never encountered a dog. She smirked at the thought of the animals she had taken on. Dogs didn't really seem like a threat to her, "Well I guess we should start looking, where do you want to go?" She questioned, and looked to him for an answer.
